Page 3, before line 26 by inserting: 4 < DIVISION ___ 5 CORE CURRICULUM MATTERS 6 Sec. ___. Section 256.7, subsection 26, paragraph 7 a, subparagraph (2), Code Supplement 2011, is amended 8 to read as follows: 9 (2) The rules establishing a core curriculum shall 10 address the core content standards in subsection 28 and 11 the skills and knowledge students need to be successful 12 in the twenty-first century. The core curriculum 13 shall include social studies and twenty-first century 14 learning skills which include but are not limited to 15 civic literacy, health literacy, technology literacy, 16 financial literacy, and employability skills; and 17 shall address the curricular needs of students in 18 kindergarten through grade twelve in those areas. 19 The department shall further define the twenty-first 20 century learning skills components by rule. The 21 provisions of section 256.18 shall be considered by 22 the state board in developing the core curriculum 23 requirements. 24 (3) Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary, 25 an accredited nonpublic school is not required to 26 meet the core curriculum and core content standards 27 requirements of this chapter that are in conflict 28 with tenets and practices of the bona fide religious 29 institution in charge of the school. >> 30 2.
