1.
a.
The
Iowa
high
school
athletic
association
6
and
the
Iowa
girls
high
school
athletic
union
shall
7
work
together
to
distribute
the
guidelines
of
the
8
centers
for
disease
control
and
prevention
of
the
9
United
States
department
of
health
and
human
services
10
and
other
pertinent
information
to
inform
and
educate
11
coaches,
students,
and
the
parents
and
guardians
12
of
students
of
the
risks,
signs,
symptoms,
and
13
behaviors
consistent
with
a
concussion
or
brain
injury,
14
including
the
danger
of
continuing
to
participate
15
in
extracurricular
interscholastic
activities
after
16
suffering
a
concussion
or
brain
injury
and
their
17
responsibility
to
report
such
signs,
symptoms,
and
18
behaviors
if
they
occur.

b.
Annually,
each
school
district
and
nonpublic
20
school
shall
provide
to
the
parent
or
guardian
of
each
21
student
a
concussion
and
brain
injury
information
22
sheet,
as
provided
by
the
Iowa
high
school
athletic
23
association
and
the
Iowa
girls
high
school
athletic
24
union.
The
student
and
the
student’s
parent
or
25
guardian
shall
sign
and
return
the
concussion
and
brain
26
injury
information
sheet
to
the
student’s
school
prior
27
to
the
student’s
participation
in
any
extracurricular
28
interscholastic
activity
for
grades
seven
through
29
twelve.

2.
If
a
student’s
coach
or
contest
official
31
observes
signs,
symptoms,
or
behaviors
consistent
with
32
a
concussion
or
brain
injury
in
an
extracurricular
33
interscholastic
activity,
the
student
shall
be
34
immediately
removed
from
participation.
35
3.
a.
A
student
who
has
been
removed
from
36
participation
shall
not
recommence
such
participation
37
until
the
student
has
been
evaluated
by
a
licensed
38
health
care
provider
trained
in
the
evaluation
and
39
management
of
concussions
and
other
brain
injuries
and
40
the
student
has
received
written
clearance
to
return
to
41
participation
from
the
health
care
provider.
42
b.
For
the
purposes
of
this
section,
a
“licensed
43
health
care
provider”
means
a
physician,
physician
44
assistant,
chiropractor,
advanced
registered
nurse
45
practitioner,
nurse,
physical
therapist,
or
athletic
46
trainer
licensed
by
a
board
designated
under
section
47
147.13.
48
c.
For
the
purposes
of
this
section,
an
49
“extracurricular
interscholastic
activity”
means
any
