1 1 Amend Senate File 2190 as follows:
1 2 #1. By striking everything after the enacting
1 3 clause and inserting the following:
1 4 <Section 1. HEALTHY CHILDREN TASK FORCE.
1 5 1. The department of education and the Iowa
1 6 department of public health shall convene a healthy
1 7 children task force to do the following:
1 8 a. Assess current policies and statutes affecting
1 9 the health of children, specifically physical
1 10 activity, physical education, food and nutrition, and
1 11 nutrition education for children ages three through
1 12 eighteen.
1 13 b. Develop recommendations for policy and
1 14 statutory changes to enhance the health and well=being
1 15 of children including, but not limited to, physical
1 16 activity, food and nutrition, and education related to
1 17 these topics.
1 18 c. Submit its findings and recommendations to the
1 19 governor and the general assembly not later than
1 20 January 1, 2007.
1 21 2. Members of the healthy children task force
1 22 shall include the following:
1 23 a. Four legislative members who shall be appointed
1 24 as follows:
1 25 (1) Two state senators, one appointed by the
1 26 president of the senate, after consultation with the
1 27 majority leader of the senate, and one appointed by
1 28 the minority leader of the senate, after consultation
1 29 with the president of the senate, from their
1 30 respective parties.
1 31 (2) Two state representatives, one appointed by
1 32 the speaker and one appointed by the minority leader
1 33 of the house of representatives from their respective
1 34 parties.
1 35 b. A representative of each of the following,
1 36 appointed by the respective entity:
1 37 (1) The department of education.
1 38 (2) The Iowa department of public health.
1 39 (3) The American heart association.
1 40 (4) The Iowa association for health, physical
1 41 education, recreation and dance.
1 42 (5) The Iowa association of school boards.
1 43 (6) The Iowa dietetic association.
1 44 (7) The school nutrition association of Iowa.
1 45 (8) The Iowa state education association.
1 46 (9) The school administrators of Iowa.
1 47 (10) The Iowa medical association.
1 48 (11) Iowa partners: action for healthy kids.
1 49 (12) The Iowa parent teacher association.
1 50 (13) The Iowa nurses association.
2 1 (14) The American cancer association.
2 2 (15) The Iowa dental association.
2 3 (16) The Iowa academy of pediatrics.
2 4 3. a. The task force shall elect a chairperson
2 5 and vice chairperson from the members appointed
2 6 pursuant to subsection 2, paragraph "b", subparagraphs
2 7 (3) through (16).
2 8 b. In case of the absence or disability of the
2 9 chairperson and vice chairperson, the members of the
2 10 task force shall elect a temporary chairperson in the
2 11 same manner as provided in paragraph "a".
2 12 c. A majority of the members of the task force
2 13 present shall constitute a quorum.
2 14 4. The department of education and the Iowa
2 15 department of public health shall work cooperatively
2 16 to provide staffing and administrative support to the
2 17 task force.
2 18 Sec. 2. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act, being deemed of
2 19 immediate importance, takes effect upon enactment.>
