Page 21, by inserting after line 17 the 1 5 following: 1 6 <Sec. . DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION == 1 7 POSTSECONDARY READINESS PILOT PROGRAM. 1 8 1. There is appropriated from the general fund of 1 9 the state to the department of education for the 1 10 fiscal year beginning July 1, 2005, and ending June 1 11 30, 2006, the following amount, or so much thereof as 1 12 is necessary, to be used for the purposes of providing 1 13 grants to school districts under the postsecondary 1 14 readiness pilot program established pursuant to this 1 15 section: 1 16 .................................................. $ 100,000 1 17 2. A postsecondary readiness pilot program is 1 18 established to be administered by the department. The 1 19 department shall develop an application process and 1 20 grant selection criteria. The purpose of the program 1 21 shall be to determine, through the use of assessments, 1 22 how prepared students enrolled in grades eight, ten, 1 23 and twelve are for postsecondary education or 1 24 workforce experiences. The grant program shall 1 25 provide for the selection of three school districts 1 26 for participation in the postsecondary readiness pilot 1 27 program. The school districts shall be located in 1 28 different geographic areas of the state, with 1 29 enrollments as follows: 1 30 a. One school district with an actual enrollment 1 31 of two thousand five hundred or more pupils. 1 32 b. One school district with an actual enrollment 1 33 that is greater than six hundred pupils, but less than 1 34 two thousand five hundred pupils. 1 35 c. One school district with an actual enrollment 1 36 of six hundred or fewer pupils. 1 37 A school district with more than one attendance 1 38 center serving the grades specified in this section 1 39 shall select one attendance center for participation 1 40 in the pilot program. 1 41 3. A school district receiving grant funds under 1 42 this section shall use assessments published by the 1 43 American college testing program, inc., (ACT) as 1 44 follows: 1 45 a. For students in grade eight, the explore 1 46 assessment. 1 47 b. For students in grade ten, the plan assessment. 1 48 c. For students in grade twelve, the ACT college 1 49 entrance examination. 1 50 4. The participating school districts shall 2 1 utilize the results of the assessments administered 2 2 pursuant to subsection 3 to identify measures which 2 3 the school district shall take to improve or expand 2 4 the school district's curriculum and increase the 2 5 rigor of the courses offered at the junior high school 2 6 and high school levels in the school year following 2 7 the completion of the assessments. 2 8 5. Each school district receiving grant funds 2 9 under this section shall submit to the department of 2 10 education, not later than August 1, 2006, the results 2 11 of the assessments administered pursuant to subsection 2 12 3, the process used to evaluate the school district's 2 13 current curriculum, and the measures identified by the 2 14 school district to improve, expand, and increase the 2 15 rigor of the school district's junior high school and 2 16 high school curriculum and courses pursuant to 2 17 subsection 4. 2 18 6.
