GENERAL INFORMATION ABOUT THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

COMPOSITION OF THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY

The legislative authority of the state is vested in a General Assembly which consists of a Senate and a House of Representatives. The State Constitution provides that the Senate shall be composed of 50 Senators and the House of Representatives shall be composed of 100 Representatives. There are 50 Senate districts. Each Senate district is composed of two House districts. The General Assembly meets in session annually on the second Monday in January.
