S.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 158.11 Continuing education. 1 1. A person licensed pursuant to this chapter shall be 2 required to complete no more than three hours of continuing 3 education every two years that meets the requirements 4 established by the board. The continuing education compliance 5 period shall extend for a two-year period beginning on July 1 6 and ending on June 30 of each even-numbered year. 7 2. A member of the board shall not provide the continuing 8 education required by this section. 9 Sec. 2. Section 272C.2A, Code 2015, is amended to read as 10 follows: 11 272C.2A Continuing education minimum requirements —— 12 barbering and cosmetology arts and sciences. 13 The board of barbering and the board of cosmetology arts and 14 sciences , created pursuant to chapter 147 , shall each require , 15 as a condition of license renewal , a minimum of six hours of 16 continuing education in the two years immediately prior to a 17 licensee’s license renewal. The board of cosmetology arts and 18 sciences may notify cosmetology arts and sciences licensees on 19 a quarterly basis regarding continuing education opportunities. 20 EXPLANATION 21 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 22 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 23 Currently, the board of barbering requires by rule that 24 licensed barbers complete eight hours of continuing education 25 every two years. Code section 272C.2A also requires a minimum 26 of six hours of continuing education every two years. This 27 bill requires barbers to be required to complete no more than 28 three hours of continuing education every two years.
