1 1 SENATE RESOLUTION NO.
1 2 BY SIEVERS, SENG, STEWART, DRAKE, and TINSMAN
1 3 A Resolution honoring Dr. John T. Blong, Chancellor of
1 4 Eastern Iowa Community College District.
1 5 WHEREAS, Dr. John T. Blong has provided outstanding
1 6 leadership for Eastern Iowa Community College District
1 7 as chancellor since 1986; and
1 8 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has announced his retirement
1 9 this June as Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community
1 10 College District, ending a distinguished 37-year
1 11 career in Iowa's community colleges; and
1 12 WHEREAS, in his 18 years as chancellor, Eastern
1 13 Iowa Community College District has become synonymous
1 14 with innovation and excellence; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong instituted a Continuous Quality
1 16 Improvement initiative, a national environmental
1 17 training center, and innovative international
1 18 education activities that have garnered Eastern Iowa
1 19 Community College District national recognition; and
1 20 WHEREAS, Eastern Iowa Community College District is
1 21 the first and only educational institution to win the
1 22 state quality award, the Iowa Recognition for
1 23 Performance Excellence; and
1 24 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has developed numerous
1 25 partnerships with educational institutions, business
1 26 and industry, community organizations, and local
1 27 governments that have expanded the capacity of all
1 28 parties to meet eastern Iowans' educational and career
1 29 training needs; and
1 30 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has provided outstanding
2 1 leadership at the state and national level during a
2 2 period of great growth and expansion of the role of
2 3 community colleges; and
2 4 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has been honored as both Central
2 5 Region and National Chief Executive Officer of the
2 6 Year in 2003 by the Association of Community College
2 7 Trustees; NOW THEREFORE,
2 8 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate
2 9 recognizes Dr. John T. Blong for his dedication to
2 10 Eastern Iowa Community College District, its students,
2 11 and its communities, and honors his efforts to
2 12 establish Eastern Iowa Community College District as a
2 13 role model for community colleges throughout Iowa and
2 14 the nation; and
2 15 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage, the
2 16 Secretary of the Senate shall cause an official copy
2 17 of this Resolution to be prepared for presentation to
2 18 Dr. John T. Blong, Chancellor of Eastern Iowa
2 19 Community College District.
