1 2 BY COMMITTEE ON RULES AND ADMINISTRATION
1 3 A Resolution honoring Senate President Mary Kramer.
1 4 WHEREAS, Senate President Mary Kramer is resigning
1 5 from legislative office after completing 13 years of
1 6 service as a Senator to serve as United States
1 7 Ambassador to the West Indian nation of Barbados; and
1 8 WHEREAS, Senator Kramer's distinguished career as a
1 9 state legislator has included service as President of
1 10 the Senate for the Seventy-seventh General Assembly
1 11 through the first half of the Eightieth General
1 12 Assembly, and as an Assistant Minority Leader during
1 13 the Seventy-fifth and Seventy-sixth General
1 14 Assemblies; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Senator Kramer's legislative career has
1 16 also included service as Vice Chairperson of the Rules
1 17 and Administration Committee, as Vice Chairperson of
1 18 the Appropriations Committee, and as Ranking Member on
1 19 the Education Committee; and
1 20 WHEREAS, Senator Kramer has served on many other
1 21 standing committees and appropriations subcommittees
1 22 throughout her years of Senate service and has been an
1 23 influential and dedicated legislator in this state;
1 24 and
1 25 WHEREAS, Senator Kramer has sponsored and been
1 26 instrumental in the passage of Iowa legislation
1 27 relating to student achievement and teacher quality
1 28 and to the development and strengthening of human
1 29 resources in this state; and
1 30 WHEREAS, Senator Kramer has served honorably and
2 1 has unselfishly given of her time and efforts to
2 2 further the interests of the State of Iowa and to
2 3 provide beneficial programs for the citizens of Iowa;
2 4 NOW THEREFORE,
2 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate pay
2 6 tribute to Senate President Kramer for her devoted
2 7 service to the Iowa General Assembly and the citizens
2 8 of this state, extend its congratulations upon her
2 9 appointment and confirmation as United States
2 10 Ambassador to Barbados, express its pride at having an
2 11 Iowa Senator named a United States ambassador, and
2 12 wish her the very best in the years ahead in all her
2 13 endeavors; and
2 14 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy of
2 15 this Resolution be prepared and presented to Senate
2 16 President Kramer.
