  1  4 REQUIRING A COMPREHENSIVE STUDY OF THE ARCHAEOLOGICAL AND
  1  5    PALEONTOLOGICAL SIGNIFICANCE AND THE SIGNIFICANCE OF THE
  1  6    FLORA AND FAUNA OF THE LOESS HILLS AND OF THE FEASIBILITY OF
  1  7    CREATING A STATE NATIVE PRAIRIE PRESERVE IN THE LOESS HILLS
  1  8    AND OF OTHER VARIOUS USES OF THE LOESS HILLS, AND PROVIDING A
  1  9    CONTINGENT EFFECTIVE DATE.

  1 11 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
  1 12 
  1 13    Section 1.  LOESS HILLS STUDY AND REPORT.  The loess hills
  1 14 development and conservation authority, in consultation with
  1 15 the state advisory board for preserves, shall conduct a
  1 16 comprehensive study to determine the archaeological and
  1 17 paleontological significance and the significance of the flora
  1 18 and fauna of the loess hills and to determine the feasibility
  1 19 of designating land in the loess hills for dedication as a
  1 20 state native prairie preserve and of other various uses of the
  1 21 loess hills.  The natural resource commission may accept
  1 22 gifts, grants, bequests, and other private contributions, as
  1 23 well as federal, state, or local funds for the purposes of
  1 24 conducting the study.  The loess hills development and
  1 25 conservation authority and the state advisory board for
  1 26 preserves shall file a joint report containing their findings
  1 27 and recommendations with the legislative services agency by
  1 28 December 15, 2006, for distribution to the general assembly.
  1 29    Sec. 2.  CONTINGENT EFFECTIVE DATE.  This Act takes effect
  1 30 upon receipt by the loess hills development and conservation
  1 31 authority of federal, state, or local funding for the loess
  1 32 hills study and report.
