PAG LIN 1 1 SENATE FILE 2279 1 2 1 3 AN ACT 1 4 RELATING TO PETITION AND OPERATING HOUR REQUIREMENTS FOR A 1 5 SATELLITE ABSENTEE VOTING STATION. 1 6 1 7 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA: 1 8 1 9 Section 1. Section 53.11, subsection 1, Code 2003, is 1 10 amended to read as follows: 1 11 1. Satellite absentee voting stations may be established 1 12 throughout the cities and county at the direction of the 1 13 commissioner and shall be established upon receipt of a 1 14 petition signed bynot less than one hundredeligible electors 1 15 requesting that a satellite absentee voting station be 1 16 established at a location to be described on the petition. A 1 17 petition requesting establishment of a satellite absentee 1 18 voting station shall also list the precincts for which the 1 19 commissioner is to provide ballots at the satellite absentee 1 20 voting station. If the location described on the petition is 1 21 in the unincorporated area of a county, the petition 1 22 requesting establishment of a satellite absentee voting 1 23 station shall be signed by not less than one hundred eligible 1 24 electors. If the location described on the petition is in a 1 25 city, the number of eligible electors required to sign a 1 26 petition requesting establishment of a satellite absentee 1 27 voting station is as follows: 1 28 a. In a city with a population of less than ten thousand, 1 29 one hundred eligible electors. 1 30 b. In a city with a population of ten thousand or more but 1 31 less than fifty thousand, two hundred fifty eligible electors. 1 32 c. In a city with a population of fifty thousand or more 1 33 but less than one hundred thousand, five hundred eligible 1 34 electors. 1 35 d. In a city with a population of one hundred thousand or 2 1 more, seven hundred fifty eligible electors. 2 2 PARAGRAPH DIVIDED. A satellite absentee voting station 2 3 established by petition must be open at least one day for a 2 4 minimum ofsixfour hours. A satellite absentee voting 2 5 station established at the direction of the commissioner or by 2 6 petition may remain open until five p.m. on the day before the 2 7 election. 2 8 2 9 2 10 2 11 JEFFREY M.
