1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 321.179 RECREATIONAL VEHICLE
1 2 DRIVER SAFETY EDUCATION.
1 3 The department shall develop a program for the
1 4 certification of courses of instruction offered in this state
1 5 by community colleges or private instructors for the safe
1 6 operation of recreational vehicles. The department shall
1 7 establish by rule requirements relating to curriculum, hours
1 8 of classroom instruction, hours of highway instruction,
1 9 instructor qualifications, and any other matters deemed
1 10 appropriate by the department. For purposes of this section,
1 11 "recreational vehicle" includes, but is not limited to, a
1 12 motor home, travel trailer, or fifth-wheel travel trailer.
1 13 EXPLANATION
1 14 This bill requires the state department of transportation
1 15 to develop a program for the certification of courses of
1 16 instruction in the safe operation of recreational vehicles,
1 17 which may be offered by community colleges or private
1 18 instructors. The department is to adopt rules addressing such
1 19 matters as curriculum requirements, hours of classroom and
1 20 highway instruction, and instructor qualifications. The bill
1 21 defines "recreational vehicle" to include motor homes, travel
1 22 trailers, and fifth-wheel travel trailers.
