1 1 Section 1. Section 481A.123, Code 2003, is amended by
1 2 adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 3. This section does not apply to the
1 4 discharge of a firearm for the purpose of target shooting on
1 5 premises posted as a target shooting range, if the premises
1 6 have been used as a target shooting range for at least two
1 7 years prior to the erection of a building inhabited by people
1 8 or domestic livestock, or prior to the construction of a
1 9 feedlot, located within two hundred yards of the target
1 10 shooting range.
1 11 As used in this subsection, "target shooting" means the
1 12 discharge of a firearm at an inanimate object, for amusement
1 13 or as a test of skill in marksmanship.
1 14 EXPLANATION
1 15 This bill provides that target shooting on premises posted
1 16 as a target shooting range is exempt from the requirement that
1 17 a firearm cannot be discharged within 200 yards of a building
1 18 inhabited by people or domestic livestock, or of a feedlot,
1 19 unless the owner or tenant has given consent, if the premises
1 20 have been used as a target shooting range for at least two
1 21 years prior to the erection of such a building or construction
1 22 of a feedlot. For the purposes of the bill, "target shooting"
1 23 means the discharge of a firearm at an inanimate object, for
1 24 amusement or as a test of skill in marksmanship. A violation
1 25 of Code section 481A.123 is punishable by a scheduled fine of
1 26 $25 under Code section 805.8B.
