1 1 SENATE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. ___
1 2 BY DOTZLER
1 3 A Concurrent Resolution relating to federal funding
1 4 for fire and emergency services and homeland security
1 5 costs.
1 6 WHEREAS, a threat continues to exist that
1 7 terrorists may initiate further attacks on the United
1 8 States; and
1 9 WHEREAS, local fire fighters, emergency medical
1 10 technicians, state and local law enforcement officers,
1 11 and other first responders will be the first to deal
1 12 with the consequences of terrorist attacks on the
1 13 United States; and
1 14 WHEREAS, Ellen Gordon, the Director of Iowa's
1 15 Emergency Management Division of the Department of
1 16 Public Defense and the head of Iowa's homeland
1 17 security efforts, has completed the preliminary
1 18 strategic planning to immediately put a portion of any
1 19 federal dollars obtained for fire and emergency
1 20 services and homeland security to use at the state and
1 21 local level in Iowa; NOW THEREFORE,
1 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF
1 23 REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING, That the General Assembly
1 24 of the State of Iowa supports efforts of Iowa's
1 25 congressional delegation to obtain federal moneys for
1 26 Iowa from federal fire and emergency service network
1 27 and training funds, police officer service network and
1 28 training funds, and other funds available or that
1 29 become available in federal homeland security
1 30 legislation; and
2 1 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this
2 2 Resolution be sent by the Secretary of the Senate to
2 3 the President of the United States, the President of
2 4 the United States Senate, the Speaker of the United
2 5 States House of Representatives, and to all members of
2 6 Iowa's congressional delegation.
