  1  1    Amend House File 2462, as amended, passed, and
  1  2 reprinted by the House, as follows:
  1  3    #1.  Page 1, by inserting after line 21 the
  1  4 following:
  1  5    "Sec.    .  CHILD IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE DIVERSION
  1  6 PILOT PROJECT.  The department of human services shall
  1  7 implement a child in need of assistance diversion
  1  8 pilot project in at least twelve counties, involving
  1  9 equal proportions of small, medium, and large
  1 10 counties.  The purposes of the project are to divert
  1 11 selected child abuse and neglect cases that may
  1 12 otherwise result in a child in need of assistance
  1 13 adjudication, improve permanency for children, promote
  1 14 family unification, and reduce state expenditures
  1 15 associated with adjudication of child in need of
  1 16 assistance cases.  Under the pilot project, unless the
  1 17 department determines that the pilot project approach
  1 18 would not be in the child's best interest, prior to a
  1 19 petition for a child's removal being filed, the
  1 20 department shall conduct a full case staffing for the
  1 21 child's case.  The staffing participants shall include
  1 22 but are not limited to relevant treatment providers,
  1 23 the child's parent or guardian, and other persons
  1 24 involved with the child.  The department shall report
  1 25 to the governor and the general assembly regarding the
  1 26 effectiveness of the pilot project.  An interim report
  1 27 shall be submitted by December 15, 2005, and a final
  1 28 report by December 15, 2006."
