PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 137F.1, subsection 7, Code 2003, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 7. "Food code" means the19972001 edition of the United 1 4 States food and drug administration food code. 1 5 Sec. 2. Section 137F.2, subsection 5, Code 2003, is 1 6 amended to read as follows: 1 7 5. 1-201.10(B)(31)and 3-403.10shall be deleted. 1 8 Sec. 3. Section 137F.2, subsections 7, 8, 10, 12, 13, and 1 9 14, Code 2003, are amended by striking the subsections. 1 10 Sec. 4. EFFECTIVE DATE. This Act takes effect on January 1 11 1, 2004. 1 12 EXPLANATION 1 13 This bill provides for the updating of the edition of the 1 14 United States food and drug administration (USFDA) food code 1 15 currently adopted in the Iowa Code from the 1997 edition to 1 16 the 2001 edition. The 2001 edition incorporates revisions 1 17 made by the USFDA to the 1997 edition, and is the most up-to- 1 18 date edition of the food code. The bill provides for the 1 19 deletion of several exceptions to the 1997 food code which 1 20 have been rendered unnecessary based upon revisions made to 1 21 the 1997 version and reflected in the updated 2001 version. 1 22 The exceptions had related to food establishment employee 1 23 contact with ready-to-eat foods, the ambient temperature for 1 24 the receiving and holding of shell eggs, standardized language 1 25 used on required consumer advisories concerning thoroughly 1 26 cooking foods of animal origin, and provisions regarding aged 1 27 cheese and whole-muscle red meats. 1 28 The bill takes effect January 1, 2004. 1 29 LSB 1313DP 80 1 30 rn/cl/14
