1 2 BY QUIRK
1 3 A Resolution congratulating the Tri-State Amateur Radio
1 4 Club for having received a Daily Point of Light
1 5 Award.
1 6 WHEREAS, the Tri-State Amateur Radio Club has
1 7 provided emergency communications assistance for the
1 8 past twenty years; and
1 9 WHEREAS, this assistance has been rendered by the
1 10 club in nine states, and has included involvement with
1 11 six search and rescue dog teams and two dive teams;
1 12 and
1 13 WHEREAS, the club has sent thousands of emergency
1 14 radio telegrams for the Salvation Army and the Red
1 15 Cross in times of emergency, and thousands of
1 16 telegrams for individuals in disaster areas and
1 17 situations; and
1 18 WHEREAS, the club consists of amateur radio
1 19 operators serving in a voluntary capacity without
1 20 compensation; and
1 21 WHEREAS, club members have received training from
1 22 the American Red Cross, the Federal Emergency
1 23 Management Agency, and the Amateur Radio Relay League;
1 24 and
1 25 WHEREAS, club members have additionally received
1 26 Community Emergency Response Team training and have
1 27 worked with the Iowa Radio Amateur Civil Emergency
1 28 Service; and
1 29 WHEREAS, the Daily Point of Light Award honors
1 30 individuals and volunteer groups that have made a
2 1 commitment to connect Americans through service to
2 2 help meet critical needs in their communities; and
2 3 WHEREAS, the club received the Daily Point of Light
2 4 Award on March 29, 2004, for supporting the Salvation
2 5 Army and the Red Cross in times of emergency; NOW
2 6 THEREFORE,
2 7 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 8 That the Iowa House of Representatives congratulates
2 9 the members of the Tri-State Amateur Radio Club on
2 10 being honored with a Daily Point of Light Award, and
2 11 recognizes and appreciates the outstanding effort put
2 12 forth by club members in rendering emergency
2 13 communications assistance.
