1 2 BY WISE, COHOON, SANDS, and HEATON
1 3 A Resolution honoring Southeastern Community College
1 4 Men's Basketball Coach Joe O'Brien.
1 5 WHEREAS, the Southeastern Community College Men's
1 6 Basketball Team recently won its third National Junior
1 7 College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I
1 8 national championship in five years, with Coach Joe
1 9 O'Brien being named Coach of the Tournament for the
1 10 third time; and
1 11 WHEREAS, Coach O'Brien has announced his
1 12 resignation after leading the Southeastern Community
1 13 College BlackHawks in his eight years as coach to a
1 14 231-64 record and a 76.9 winning percentage; and
1 15 WHEREAS, Coach O'Brien is only the third coach in
1 16 junior college history to win three national
1 17 championships; and
1 18 WHEREAS, Coach O'Brien attributes his success as a
1 19 junior college basketball coach to the pursuit of
1 20 multiple goals which include building his players'
1 21 skills and confidence to play at a higher level,
1 22 motivating them to work very hard on and off the
1 23 basketball court, specifically assisting them to
1 24 succeed academically, recruiting new players each year
1 25 to fill the everchanging junior college roster of
1 26 players, and raising the funds and securing the
1 27 support of fans necessary to make the men's basketball
1 28 program at Southeastern Community College viable each
1 29 year; NOW THEREFORE,
1 30 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 1 That the House of Representatives congratulates Coach
2 2 Joe O'Brien for his unrivaled success as the coach of
2 3 the Southeastern Community College Men's Basketball
2 4 Team these past eight years and thanks him for his
2 5 dedication and for the honor and recognition he has
2 6 brought to Southeastern Community College and to the
2 7 State of Iowa; and
2 8 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That, upon adoption, an
2 9 official copy of this Resolution be prepared for
2 10 presentation to Coach Joe O'Brien.
