1 2 BY WINCKLER, LYKAM, J. R. VAN FOSSEN,
1 3 HUTTER, J. K. VAN FOSSEN, and S. OLSON
1 4 A Resolution honoring Dr. John T. Blong, Chancellor of
1 5 Eastern Iowa Community College District.
1 6 WHEREAS, Dr. John T. Blong has provided outstanding
1 7 leadership for Eastern Iowa Community College District
1 8 as chancellor since 1986; and
1 9 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has announced his retirement
1 10 this June as Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community
1 11 College District, ending a distinguished 37-year
1 12 career in Iowa's community colleges; and
1 13 WHEREAS, in his 18 years as chancellor, Eastern
1 14 Iowa Community College District has become synonymous
1 15 with innovation and excellence; and
1 16 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong instituted a Continuous Quality
1 17 Improvement initiative, a national environmental
1 18 training center, and innovative international
1 19 education activities that have garnered Eastern Iowa
1 20 Community College District national recognition; and
1 21 WHEREAS, Eastern Iowa Community College District is
1 22 the first and only educational institution to win the
1 23 state quality award, the Iowa Recognition for
1 24 Performance Excellence; and
1 25 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has developed numerous
1 26 partnerships with educational institutions, business
1 27 and industry, community organizations, and local
1 28 governments that have expanded the capacity of all
1 29 parties to meet eastern Iowans' educational and career
1 30 training needs; and
2 1 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has provided outstanding
2 2 leadership at the state and national level during a
2 3 period of great growth and expansion of the role of
2 4 community colleges; and
2 5 WHEREAS, Dr. Blong has been honored as both Central
2 6 Region and National Chief Executive Officer of the
2 7 Year in 2003 by the Association of Community College
2 8 Trustees; NOW THEREFORE,
2 9 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
2 10 That the House of Representatives recognizes Dr. John
2 11 T. Blong for his dedication to Eastern Iowa Community
2 12 College District, its students, and its communities,
2 13 and honors his efforts to establish Eastern Iowa
2 14 Community College District as a role model for
2 15 community colleges throughout Iowa and the nation; and
2 16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That upon passage, the
2 17 Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives shall
2 18 cause an official copy of this Resolution to be
2 19 prepared for presentation to Dr. John T. Blong,
2 20 Chancellor of Eastern Iowa Community College District.
