1 2 BY GREIMANN, HEDDENS, and WISE
1 3 (COMPANION TO LSB 6533SS BY QUIRMBACH)
1 4 A Resolution to recognize the week of May 10, 2004,
1 5 as Iowa Solar Energy Awareness Week.
1 6 WHEREAS, the planet Earth has a limited supply of
1 7 available nonrenewable sources of energy that generate
1 8 pollution when used for energy purposes; and
1 9 WHEREAS, the United States and the State of Iowa
1 10 have a high dependence on nonrenewable and fossil
1 11 fuels; and
1 12 WHEREAS, Iowa State University of Science and
1 13 Technology is a premier education institution devoted
1 14 to excellence and innovation in engineering and the
1 15 natural resources, and is a national leader in solar
1 16 vehicle racing and in the development of solar vehicle
1 17 engineering technologies; and
1 18 WHEREAS, solar energy offers the State of Iowa a
1 19 viable renewable energy source that has the ability to
1 20 provide environmentally clean power for the state
1 21 without depleting the earth's stores of fossil fuels;
1 22 NOW THEREFORE,
1 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
1 24 That the House of Representatives recognizes the week
1 25 of May 10, 2004, as Iowa Solar Energy Awareness Week
1 26 in Iowa, and calls upon citizens to observe this week
1 27 with appropriate activities and ceremonies to enhance
1 28 public awareness of alternative, sustainable, and
1 29 renewable energy technologies.
