  1 10 A Resolution to recognize February 6
  1 11    as Ronald Reagan Day in the State of Iowa.
  1 12    WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of
  1 13 humble background, worked throughout his life serving
  1 14 freedom and advancing the public good, having been
  1 15 employed as an entertainer, union leader, corporate
  1 16 spokesman, Governor of California, and President of
  1 17 the United States; and
  1 18    WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and
  1 19 distinction for two terms as the fortieth President of
  1 20 the United States of America, the second term of which
  1 21 he earned the confidence of sixty percent of the
  1 22 electorate and was victorious in forty-nine of the
  1 23 fifty states in the general election, a record
  1 24 unsurpassed in the history of American presidential
  1 25 elections; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was
  1 27 inaugurated President, he inherited a disillusioned
  1 28 nation shackled by rampant inflation and high
  1 29 unemployment; and
  1 30    WHEREAS, during Mr. Reagan's presidency, he worked
  2  1 in a bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of
  2  2 restoring accountability and common sense to
  2  3 government which led to an unprecedented economic
  2  4 expansion and opportunity for millions of Americans;
  2  5 and
  2  6    WHEREAS, Mr. Reagan's commitment to an active
  2  7 social policy agenda for the nation's children helped
  2  8 lower crime and drug use in the nation's communities
  2  9 and neighborhoods; and
  2 10    WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to the
  2 11 nation's armed forces contributed to the restoration
  2 12 of pride in America, American values and those
  2 13 cherished by the free world, and prepared America's
  2 14 armed forces to win the Gulf War; and
  2 15    WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace
  2 16 through strength" led to the end of the Cold War and
  2 17 the ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing
  2 18 basic human rights for millions of people; and
  2 19    WHEREAS, on February 6, 2003, Ronald Reagan will
  2 20 have reached the age of ninety-two years; NOW
  2 21 THEREFORE,
  2 22    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
  2 23 That the Iowa House of Representatives hereby
  2 24 recognizes February 6, 2003, and subsequent annual
  2 25 anniversaries of that date, as Ronald Reagan Day.
