1 1 Section 1. Section 321.34, Code Supplement 2003, is
1 2 amended by adding the following new subsection:
1 3 NEW SUBSECTION. 24. MILITARY PLATE FEES. Notwithstanding
1 4 section 423.24, and prior to the crediting of revenues to the
1 5 road use tax fund under section 423.24, subsection 1,
1 6 paragraph "b", the treasurer of state shall transfer monthly
1 7 from those revenues to the veterans license fee fund created
1 8 in section 35A.11 an amount equal to twenty dollars for each
1 9 twenty-five dollar initial issuance fee collected and five
1 10 dollars for each annual renewal fee collected in the previous
1 11 month pursuant to subsection 12, paragraph "a", from the sale
1 12 and annual renewal of Pearl Harbor, purple heart, retired
1 13 United States armed forces, silver star, and bronze star
1 14 special plates.
1 15 EXPLANATION
1 16 This bill provides for the transfer of fees from certain
1 17 special motor vehicle registration plates to the veterans
1 18 license fee fund administered by the commission of veterans
1 19 affairs. The initial fee for issuance of Pearl Harbor, purple
1 20 heart, retired United States armed forces, silver star, and
1 21 bronze star special registration plates is $25, and the
1 22 special fee for annual renewal is $5. The bill requires that
1 23 an amount equal to $20 from each of the initial fees and all
1 24 of the $5 annual renewal fees shall be transferred from motor
1 25 vehicle use taxes to the veterans trust fund.
