PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 257.40, Code 2003, is amended to read 1 2 as follows: 1 3 257.40 PLANS FOR RETURNING DROPOUTS AND DROPOUT 1 4 PREVENTION. 1 5 The board of directors of a school district requesting to 1 6 use additional allowable growth for programs for returning 1 7 dropouts and dropout prevention shall submit applications for 1 8 approval for the programs to the department not later than 1 9November 1February 15 preceding the budget year during which 1 10 the program will be offered. The department shall review the 1 11 program plans and shall prior toJanuary 15April 30 either 1 12 grant approval for the program or return the request for 1 13 approval with comments of the department included. An 1 14 unapproved request for a program may be resubmitted with 1 15 modifications to the department not later thanFebruary 1May 1 16 15. Not later thanFebruary 15May 31, the department shall 1 17 notify the department of management and the school budget 1 18 review committee of the names of the school districts for 1 19 which programs using additional allowable growth for funding 1 20 have been approved and the approved budget of each program 1 21 listed separately for each school district having an approved 1 22 program. 1 23 EXPLANATION 1 24 This bill changes the date by which a school district must 1 25 apply to the department of education for approval to use 1 26 additional allowable growth for programs for returning 1 27 dropouts and dropout prevention from November 1 to February 1 28 15. The bill subsequently changes the dates by which the 1 29 department must review the program plans and either grant 1 30 approval or return the request, the date by which requests 1 31 must be resubmitted with modifications, and the date by which 1 32 the department must notify the department of management and 1 33 the school budget review committee of the names of the school 1 34 districts whose requests have been approved. 1 35 LSB 6097HH 80 2 1 kh/pj/5
