1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 909.5A FINES – CREDIT FOR TIME
1 2 SERVED.
1 3 If a person has not paid a fine and an arrest warrant is
1 4 issued for the person based solely on the unpaid fine, the
1 5 court may, in its discretion, order that the person receive
1 6 credit for any time served after the person was arrested on
1 7 the warrant, in lieu of paying the outstanding fine.
1 8 EXPLANATION
1 9 This bill provides that if a person has not paid a fine and
1 10 an arrest warrant is issued for the person based solely on the
1 11 unpaid fine, the court may, in its discretion, order that the
1 12 person receive credit for any time served after the person was
1 13 arrested on the warrant, in lieu of paying the outstanding
1 14 fine.
