PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 321.115, subsection 3, Code 2003, is 1 2 amended to read as follows: 1 3 3. The owner of a motor vehiclewhichthat is registered 1 4 under subsection 1,may display a registration plate from or 1 5 representing the model year of the motor vehicle, furnished by 1 6 the person, in lieu of a current and valid Iowa registration 1 7 plate issuedtofor the vehicle, provided that any replaced 1 8 current and valid Iowa registration plate and the registration 1 9 card issuedtofor the vehicle are simultaneously carried 1 10 within the vehicle and are available for inspectiontoby any 1 11 peace officer upon the officer's request. 1 12 Sec. 2. Section 321.115, Code 2003, is amended by adding 1 13 the following new subsection: 1 14 NEW SUBSECTION. 3A. Upon application to the department 1 15 and payment of the proper fees, the owner of a motor vehicle 1 16 that is twenty-five years of age or older and registered for 1 17 normal highway operation in this state may display 1 18 registration plates from or representing the model year of the 1 19 motor vehicle, furnished by the person, in lieu of the current 1 20 and valid Iowa registration plates issued for the vehicle. 1 21 The replaced current and valid Iowa registration plates and 1 22 registration card issued for the vehicle shall be 1 23 simultaneously carried within the vehicle and available for 1 24 inspection by any peace officer upon the officer's request. 1 25 The current registration validation sticker shall be displayed 1 26 on the model year registration plate on the rear of the 1 27 vehicle according to rules adopted pursuant to section 321.34, 1 28 subsection 2. The annual fee for substituting model year 1 29 plates for regular registration plates is twenty-five dollars, 1 30 which shall be paid in addition to the regular annual 1 31 registration fee required under section 321.113. 1 32 EXPLANATION 1 33 This bill allows the owner of an antique motor vehicle to 1 34 substitute model year registration plates, supplied by the 1 35 owner, for regular registration plates issued for the vehicle. 2 1 The current registration validation sticker must be displayed 2 2 on the rear model year plate, and the current and valid 2 3 registration plates and registration card issued for the 2 4 vehicle must be carried in the vehicle at all times and made 2 5 available for inspection by a peace officer. The annual fee 2 6 for substituting model year plates for regular registration 2 7 plates is $25, in addition to regular motor vehicle 2 8 registration fees. 2 9 A violation of this and other Code provisions relating to 2 10 antique vehicles is a simple misdemeanor punishable by a fine 2 11 of $30. 2 12 LSB 5118YH 80 2 13 dea/sh/8
