1 1 Section 1. NEW SECTION. 135C.31A ASSESSMENT OF RESIDENTS
1 2 – PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY.
1 3 1. A licensed health care facility shall determine, prior
1 4 to initial admission of a resident, the prospective resident's
1 5 eligibility for benefits through the United States department
1 6 of veterans affairs. The health care facility shall also
1 7 determine the eligibility of any residents residing in the
1 8 facility if a determination was not made prior to a resident's
1 9 admission to the health care facility. The health care
1 10 facility shall report any information collected to the Iowa
1 11 commission of veterans affairs.
1 12 2. The department shall require as a condition of renewal
1 13 of licensure under this chapter that a health care facility
1 14 provide accurate documentation of compliance with this
1 15 section.
1 16 3. The department shall adopt rules to implement and
1 17 administer this section.
1 18 EXPLANATION
1 19 This bill requires that a licensed health care facility
1 20 determine, prior to initial admission of a resident, the
1 21 prospective resident's eligibility for benefits through the
1 22 United States department of veterans affairs. The bill also
1 23 requires that the health care facility determine the
1 24 eligibility of current residents if a determination was not
1 25 made prior to a resident's admission. Under the bill, the
1 26 health care facility is to report any information collected to
1 27 the Iowa commission of veterans affairs. The bill also
1 28 provides that as a condition of renewal of licensure of a
1 29 health care facility, the health care facility is to provide
1 30 accurate documentation of compliance with the requirements of
1 31 the bill.
