PAG LIN 1 1 Section 1. Section 279.7A, Code 2003, is amended to read 1 2 as follows: 1 3 279.7A INTEREST IN PUBLIC CONTRACTS PROHIBITED – 1 4 EXCEPTIONS. 1 5 1. A member of the board of directors of a school 1 6 corporation shall not have an interest, direct or indirect, in 1 7 a contract for the purchase of goods, including materials and 1 8 profits, and the performance of services for the director's 1 9 school corporation. A contract entered into in violation of 1 10 thissectionsubsection is void. Thissectionsubsection does 1 11 not apply to contracts for the purchase of goods or services 1 12 which benefit a director, or to compensation for part-time or 1 13 temporary employment which benefits a director, if the benefit 1 14 to the director does not exceed two thousand five hundred 1 15 dollars in a fiscal year, and contracts made by a school 1 16 board, upon competitive bid in writing, publicly invited and 1 17 opened. 1 18 2. Notwithstanding subsection 1, a member of the board of 1 19 directors of a school corporation may receive compensation for 1 20 part-time or temporary employment as a substitute teacher or a 1 21 school bus driver if the compensation does not exceed six 1 22 thousand five hundred dollars in a fiscal year. 1 23 EXPLANATION 1 24 This bill increases the current Code limitation on annual 1 25 compensation to a school board member from $2,500 to $6,500 1 26 for services to the member's school corporation if the school 1 27 board member is employed on a part-time or temporary basis as 1 28 a substitute teacher or a school bus driver. 1 29 LSB 1601HH 80 1 30 kh/pj/5
