3BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF IOWA:
1   Section 1.  NEW SECTION.  103A.8D  Residential garages —
2electrical requirements.
   3The state building code commissioner shall adopt as part
4of the state building code a requirement that a new garage
5constructed for a single-family or two-family residence on or
6after the effective date of this Act include the equipment
7necessary to support the installation of a level two electric
8vehicle charger. For the purposes of this section, “level two
9electric vehicle charger”
means an electric vehicle charger that
10requires connection to a dedicated two hundred four volt or two
11hundred eighty volt electrical circuit.
12EXPLANATION
13The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with
14the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly.
   15This bill requires the state building code commissioner to
16adopt as part of the state building code a requirement that new
17garages built for single-family or two-family residences on
18or after the effective date of the bill include the equipment
19necessary to support the installation of a level two electric
20vehicle charger, as defined in the bill.
