HONORABLE ALLEN J. KANE

MR. SPEAKER: Your committee appointed to prepare resolutions commemorating the life, character, and public services of the Honorable Allen J. Kane of Dubuque county, beg leave to submit the following report:

Allen J. Kane was born in Dubuque county of parents whose paternal and maternal ancestors became settlers in the county of Dubuque nearly one hundred years ago.

He was admitted to the practice of law in the month of June, 1910, and immediately attracted attention because of his ability and competency as a lawyer, and eloquence as an orator. It was therefore only natural that he should be successful in his chosen profession, which he loved next to his God and to his family. In 1912, Allen J. Kane was elected State Representative from Dubuque county and served with distinction during the Thirty-third and Thirty-fourth sessions of the General Assembly of Iowa. During part of this time he was honored by being chosen floor leader of his political party. In 1917, he was appointed Assistant County Attorney of Dubuque county and continued in that position until 1919. In 1922, he was elected to the office of County Attorney, which office he held until 1929. He also served as a member of the Board of Education of the Independent School District of Dubuque.

Allen J. Kane won and held the respect of everyone because of his honesty and efficiency. He was a respected member of the Bar Association and served before the courts of this state for a period of twenty-five years with dignity, respect and honor. As a citizen he occupied a position of high esteem not only in the city of Dubuque but also in the state of Iowa. Dubuque county lost one of its finest citizens with the death of Allen J. Kane. His family suffered the irreparable loss of a loving husband and parent.

Therefore, Be It Resolved, That in the passing of the Honorable Allen J. Kane, the county of Dubuque and the state of Iowa has lost a valuable and honored citizen and the House of Representatives of the state of Iowa, Forty-seventh General Assembly, tender by this resolution its sincere sympathy to the surviving members of his family in their sorrow, and,

Be It Further Resolved, That a copy of this resolution be spread upon the Journal of the House of Representatives and that the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives, Forty-seventh General Assembly, be instructed to send an enrolled copy to the family of the deceased.

EUGENE H. REILLY,

J. E. CRAVEN,

THOMAS STIMPSON,

Committee.
