Section
1.
Section
602.1215,
subsection
1,
Code
2019,
is
1
amended
to
read
as
follows:

1.
Subject
to
the
provisions
of
section
602.1209,
3
subsection
3
,
the
district
judges
of
each
judicial
election
4
district
shall
by
majority
vote
appoint
persons
to
serve
as
5
clerks
of
the
district
court
within
the
judicial
election
6
district.
The
district
judges
of
a
judicial
election
district
7
may
appoint
a
person
to
serve
as
clerk
of
the
district
court
8
for
more
than
one
but
not
more
than
four
contiguous
counties
9
county
in
the
same
judicial
district.
To
facilitate
the
10
delivery
of
court
services
in
every
county,
the
district
judges
11
of
a
judicial
election
district
shall
appoint
a
person
to
serve
12
as
clerk
of
the
district
court
in
every
county
in
the
judicial
13
district,
which
may
be
the
same
person
designated
as
clerk
in
14
one
or
more
other
counties.
A
person
does
not
qualify
for
15
appointment
to
the
office
of
clerk
of
the
district
court
unless
16
the
person
is
at
the
time
of
application
a
must
be
a
resident
17
of
the
state
within
ninety
days
of
appointment
.
A
clerk
of
18
the
district
court
may
be
removed
from
office
for
cause
by
the
19
chief
judge
of
the
judicial
district,
after
consultation
with
20
the
district
judges
of
the
judicial
election
district.
Prior
21
to
removal,
the
clerk
of
the
district
court
shall
be
notified
22
of
the
cause
for
removal.
