Section 147A.1, subsection 13, Code 2020, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 13. “Training program” means an Iowa college approved by 3 the higher learning commission , or an Iowa hospital authorized 4 by the department , or a medical care ambulance service or 5 nontransport service that has received authorization from the 6 department to conduct emergency medical care services training. 7 Sec. 2. Section 147A.17, subsection 1, Code 2020, is amended 8 to read as follows: 9 1. An Iowa college approved by the higher learning 10 commission , or an Iowa hospital in this state , or a medical 11 care ambulance service or nontransport service that desires to 12 provide emergency medical care services training leading to 13 certification as an emergency medical care provider shall apply 14 to the department for authorization to establish a training 15 program. 16 EXPLANATION 17 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 18 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 19 Code section 147A.17 provides that an Iowa college approved 20 by the higher learning commission or an Iowa hospital in this 21 state that desires to provide emergency medical care services 22 training leading to certification as an emergency medical care 23 provider shall apply to the department of public health for 24 authorization to establish a training program. 25 This bill authorizes a medical care ambulance service or 26 nontransport service to apply to the department to establish a 27 training program. Additionally, the bill makes a corresponding 28 change to the definition of “training program” to reflect the 29 addition of medical care ambulance services and nontransport 30 services to the category of eligible training program 31 providers. 32 -1- LSB 6044XC (1) 88 md/ns 1/ 1
