S.F. 356 Section 1. Section 321.463, subsection 9, Code 2019, is 1 amended to read as follows: 2 9. a. A When operating on a paved highway that is not 3 otherwise restricted for weight, a vehicle or combination of 4 vehicles transporting materials or equipment on nonprimary 5 highways to or from a construction project or commercial plant 6 site may operate under the maximum gross weight table for 7 primary highways in subsection 6 , paragraph “a” , or the maximum 8 gross weight table for noninterstate highways in subsection 6 , 9 paragraph “c” . 10 b. When operating on a highway that is not paved and not 11 otherwise restricted for weight, a vehicle or combination of 12 vehicles transporting materials or equipment on nonprimary 13 highways to or from a construction project or commercial plant 14 site may operate under the maximum gross weight table for 15 noninterstate highways in subsection 6, paragraph “c” . 16 c. When crossing a bridge, such a vehicle or combination 17 of vehicles shall comply with any weight restriction imposed 18 for the bridge pursuant to section 321.471 or 321.474 , provided 19 signs that conform to the manual of uniform traffic-control 20 devices adopted by the department that give notice of the 21 restriction are posted as required under section 321.472 or 22 321.474 , as applicable. 23 EXPLANATION 24 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 25 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 26 Under current law, a vehicle or combination of vehicles 27 transporting materials or equipment on nonprimary highways 28 to or from a construction project or commercial plant site 29 may operate under the maximum gross weight table for primary 30 highways or the maximum gross weight table for noninterstate 31 highways. This bill applies the provision to such vehicles 32 operating on a paved highway that is not otherwise restricted 33 for weight.
