S.F. 232 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 476.49 Siting of wind energy 1 conversion facilities. 2 1. A wind energy conversion facility installed on or after 3 the effective date of this Act shall be sited at a distance no 4 less than five hundred feet from any real property abutting the 5 wind energy conversion property where the facility is located. 6 2. For purposes of this section: 7 a. “Wind energy conversion facility” means the same as 8 defined in section 476C.1. 9 b. “Wind energy conversion property” means the same as 10 defined in section 427B.26. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill requires wind energy conversion facilities 15 installed on or after the effective date of the bill to 16 be sited at a distance no less than 500 feet from any real 17 property abutting the wind energy conversion property where the 18 facility is located. The bill defines “wind energy conversion 19 facility” to mean a wind energy conversion system in Iowa that 20 collects and converts wind into energy to generate electricity. 21 “Wind energy conversion property” is defined as the entire wind 22 plant, including but not limited to a wind charger, windmill, 23 wind turbine, tower and electrical equipment, pad mount 24 transformers, power lines, and substation. 25 -1- LSB 1637XS (1) 88 gh/rn 1/ 1
