S.F. 2078 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 68A.507 Expenditure of funds in 1 nonpartisan local elections —— prohibited. 2 1. A county statutory political committee, national 3 political party, or state statutory political committee shall 4 not make an expenditure in support of or in opposition to a 5 candidate in a county, city, or school board election that is 6 conducted on a nonpartisan basis. 7 2. A county statutory political committee, national 8 political party, or state statutory political committee shall 9 not make a contribution to a candidate in a county, city, or 10 school board election that is conducted on a nonpartisan basis. 11 EXPLANATION 12 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 13 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 14 This bill prohibits a county statutory political committee, 15 national political party, or state statutory political 16 committee from making an expenditure for or contribution to a 17 candidate running for a county, city, or school board office 18 that is selected by a nonpartisan election. By operation of 19 law, a person who willfully violates a provision of the bill 20 is guilty of a serious misdemeanor. A serious misdemeanor is 21 punishable by confinement for no more than one year and a fine 22 of at least $315 but not more than $1,875. 23 -1- LSB 5599XS (2) 88 ss/jh 1/ 1
