kinship

peoples

Japan
and
the
United
States

recognizing
March
14,
2019,
as
Japan
Day
at
the

Iowa
State
Capitol.

WHEREAS,
Japan
and
the
United
States
share
an
5
economic
partnership
which
is
grounded
in
mutual
6
security
and
prosperity,
balanced
and
fair,
and
which
7
supports
thousands
of
jobs
in
both
countries;
and
8
WHEREAS,
Japan
and
the
United
States
share
9
a
commitment
to
joint
security
and
defense
10
partnerships;
and
11
WHEREAS,
the
economic
relationship
between
Japan
and
12
the
State
of
Iowa
is
especially
vibrant
as
Japan
is
13
Iowa’s
third-largest
export
market;
and
14
WHEREAS,
the
State
of
Iowa
enjoys
a
strong
15
sister-state
relationship
with
Yamanashi
Prefecture
16
dating
back
to
Iowa’s
response
to
a
devastating
typhoon
17
that
affected
the
prefecture
in
1959;
and
18
WHEREAS,
Japan
and
the
State
of
Iowa
enjoy
robust
19
and
expanding
ties
based
upon
relationships
and
20
exchanges
in
such
areas
as
agriculture,
innovation,
21
culture,
sport,
and
academia;
NOW
THEREFORE,
22
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
SENATE,
THE
HOUSE
OF
23
REPRESENTATIVES
CONCURRING,
That
the
Iowa
General
24
Assembly
honors
the
long
and
rich
history
of
friendship
25
and
economic
partnership
between
the
citizens
of
the
26
State
of
Iowa
and
Japan;
and
27
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
in
honor
of
our
strong
