SMITH , STECKMAN , SUNDE , THEDE , WILLIAMS , WINCKLER , and WOLFE A Resolution recognizing Megan Gustafson for her 1 outstanding academic and college basketball career 2 at the University of Iowa. 3 WHEREAS, Megan Gustafson emerged early in her 4 basketball career by being named to the Big Ten 5 all-freshman team during the 2015-2016 college 6 basketball season; and 7 WHEREAS, Ms. Gustafson solidified her place in Iowa 8 basketball history by being named first team all-Big 9 Ten by the conference coaches and media during her 10 sophomore, junior, and senior seasons while twice being 11 named Big Ten Player of the Year; and 12 WHEREAS, during Ms. Gustafson’s record-breaking 13 senior season, she became a consensus first team 14 all-American while being named Big Ten Player of the 15 Week a record 13 times, and became only the fourth 16 player in women’s college basketball history to score 17 1,000 points in a single season; and 18 WHEREAS, Ms. Gustafson’s senior season that included 19 leading the country in scoring per game (27.8), total 20 points (1,001), double-doubles (33), field goals made 21 -1- LSB 2812HH (4) 88 md/rn 1/ 2
H.R. 26 (412), and field goal percentage (69.6), culminated 1 with a Big Ten Conference Tournament championship, 2 where Ms. Gustafson was named the tournament’s Most 3 Outstanding Player, and the University of Iowa women’s 4 basketball team’s second straight National Collegiate 5 Athletic Association tournament appearance, where the 6 team advanced to the Elite Eight; and 7 WHEREAS, Ms. Gustafson ended her career at the 8 University of Iowa as a two-time academic all-Big Ten 9 selection and as the school’s all-time leading scorer 10 and rebounder; and 11 WHEREAS, for her outstanding senior season, Ms. 12 Gustafson received the 2019 Citizen Naismith Trophy 13 for Women’s College Player of the Year; was named 14 the Associated Press Women’s Basketball Player of 15 the Year and the ESPNW College Basketball Player of 16 the Year; received the 2019 Lisa Leslie Award as the 17 nation’s top center; received the Ann Meyers Drysdale 18 National Player of the Year Award from the United 19 States Basketball Writers Association; and received the 20 2018-2019 Senior CLASS Award; NOW THEREFORE, 21 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 22 That the House of Representatives hereby recognizes 23 and congratulates Megan Gustafson for her outstanding 24 career at the University of Iowa and wishes her 25 continued success during her Women’s National 26 Basketball Association career. 27 -2- LSB 2812HH (4) 88 md/rn 2/ 2
