MEYER A Resolution recognizing and honoring Dennis Pilcher 1 for his accomplishments and career in coaching 2 basketball and as athletic director of Iowa Central 3 Community College. 4 WHEREAS, Dennis Pilcher coached 51 seasons of 5 basketball, including 40 seasons at Iowa Central 6 Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa, eight seasons 7 at Dyersburg State Community College in Dyersburg, 8 Tennessee, and three seasons at Fancy Farm High School 9 in Fancy Farm, Kentucky; and 10 WHEREAS, Pilcher is not only Iowa Central’s longest 11 tenured coach, but he also served as Iowa Central’s 12 athletic director from 1990 to 2010; and 13 WHEREAS, Pilcher has the 12th most victories 14 nationally all-time among junior college head coaches 15 with 856 wins (759 wins at Iowa Central); and 16 WHEREAS, Pilcher led Iowa Central to two National 17 Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) tournament 18 appearances; and 19 WHEREAS, Pilcher has coached four first-team All 20 Americans, an honor recognizing exceptional basketball 21 players; and 22 WHEREAS, Pilcher is a two-time Region XI NJCAA 23 Division II Men’s Basketball Coach of the Year; and 24 WHEREAS, in 2011, Pilcher was inducted into the 25 NJCAA Coaches Hall of Fame by his NJCAA coaching 26 peers; and 27 WHEREAS, as athletic director of Iowa Central, 28 -1- LSB 2808HH (2) 88 mo/rn 1/ 2
H.R. 23 Pilcher oversaw the athletic department grow from 10 1 programs in 1990 to 20 programs in 2010; and 2 WHEREAS, Pilcher’s final two seasons as athletic 3 director yielded back-to-back National Association of 4 Two-Year College Athletic Administrator Cups, which 5 is awarded annually to the nation’s top two-year 6 athletic department based on team finishes at national 7 tournaments; and 8 WHEREAS, on February 22, 2013, Iowa Central honored 9 Pilcher by dedicating and naming the basketball court 10 inside Hodges Fieldhouse, located on Iowa Central’s 11 campus, the Dennis Pilcher Court; and 12 WHEREAS, in March of 2019, Pilcher officially 13 announced his retirement, ending a career spanning five 14 decades of coaching basketball and being involved in 15 college athletics; NOW THEREFORE, 16 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 17 the House of Representatives recognizes and honors 18 Dennis Pilcher for his illustrious career of coaching 19 basketball and as athletic director of Iowa Central 20 Community College. 21 -2- LSB 2808HH (2) 88 mo/rn 2/ 2
