Section
1.
CIVIL
COMMITMENT
UNIT
FOR
SEXUAL
OFFENDERS

TELEHEALTH.
The
university
of
Iowa
hospitals
and
clinics
2
when
providing
health
care
services
to
patients
at
the
3
civil
commitment
unit
for
sexual
offenders
shall
utilize
4
telehealth
instead
of
in-person
delivery
of
health
care
5
services,
to
the
greatest
extent
medically
appropriate,
to
6
reduce
transportation,
staffing,
and
other
costs
to
the
civil
7
commitment
unit
for
sexual
offenders,
which
would
otherwise
be
8
incurred
through
the
provision
of
in-person
delivery
of
health
9
care
services.
The
civil
commitment
unit
for
sexual
offenders
10
shall
document
the
use
of
telehealth
under
this
section
and
any
11
resulting
savings
in
costs
and
staffing.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
14
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

This
bill
directs
the
university
of
Iowa
hospitals
and
16
clinics
which
provides
health
care
services
to
patients
at
17
the
civil
commitment
unit
for
sexual
offenders
(CCUSO)
to
18
utilize
telehealth
instead
of
in-person
delivery
of
health
19
care
services,
to
the
greatest
extent
medically
appropriate,
20
to
reduce
transportation,
staffing,
and
other
costs
to
CCUSO,
21
which
would
otherwise
be
incurred
through
the
provision
of
22
in-person
delivery
of
health
care
services.
The
bill
requires
23
CCUSO
to
document
the
use
of
telehealth
under
this
Code
section
24
and
any
resulting
savings
in
costs
and
staffing.
