WHEREAS,
Harold
Keller,
born
and
raised
in
Brooklyn,

Iowa,
enlisted
in
the
United
States
Marines
following

the
attack
on
Pearl
Harbor
and
the
United
States
6
entrance
into
World
War
II;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Corporal
Harold
Keller
served
and
fought
as
8
a
Marine
in
several
battles
during
the
Allied
offensive
9
in
the
Pacific;
and
10
WHEREAS,
Corporal
Keller
was
a
part
of
the
force
11
that
landed
and
fought
on
Iwo
Jima,
one
of
the
fiercest
12
and
bloodiest
battles
of
the
Pacific
theater;
and
13
WHEREAS,
on
February
23,
1945,
photographer
Joe
14
Rosenthal
captured
the
image
of
six
Marines
raising
the
15
United
States
flag
on
Mount
Suribachi
indicating
the
16
Allies
had
won
the
battle
of
Iwo
Jima;
and
17
WHEREAS,
the
iconic
photograph
of
Marines
raising

the
United
States
flag
at
Iwo
Jima
became
a
powerful

symbol
of
the
determination
of
all
who
served
and

historical
research
has
determined

RESOLVED

HOUSE

REPRESENTATIVES,

CONCURRING,
That
the
General
Assembly
recognizes

honors
the
memory
of

Keller
as
one

the
