NEW SECTION . 279.70 School district building 1 security plans. 2 The board of directors of a school district shall establish 3 a security plan for individual school buildings in the school 4 district in which students are educated no later than June 30, 5 2019. The plan shall include but not be limited to responses 6 to active shooter scenarios and natural disasters. The 7 board shall consider any recommendations of the department 8 of education relating to school security planning and shall 9 consult with local law enforcement agencies and the local 10 emergency management coordinator in the development of the 11 plan. The board shall ensure that the plan is distributed to 12 the parents or guardians of all students enrolled in the school 13 district at least once per school year. Such distribution may 14 be electronic. The board shall ensure that the plan is shared 15 with students enrolled in the school district at a school 16 assembly at least once per school year. 17 EXPLANATION 18 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 19 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 20 This bill requires the board of directors of a school 21 district to establish a security plan for individual school 22 buildings in the school district in which students are educated 23 no later than June 30, 2019.
