Unattended
motor
vehicle.

1.
No
A
person
driving
or
in
charge
of
a
motor
vehicle
shall

not
permit
it
the
vehicle
to
stand
unattended
without
first
5
stopping
the
engine
,
or
when
standing
unless
the
vehicle
is
6
locked
or,
if
it
is
impossible
to
lock
the
vehicle
while
the
7
vehicle’s
engine
is
running,
the
vehicle
is
equipped
with
a
8
theft
alarm
signal
device
or
other
antitheft
device
and
such
9
device
is
in
operation.

2.
A
person
driving
or
in
charge
of
a
motor
vehicle
shall
11
not
permit
the
vehicle
to
stand
unattended
upon
any
perceptible
12
grade
without
effectively
setting
the
brake
thereon
and
turning
13
the
front
wheels
to
the
curb
or
side
of
the
highway.

EXPLANATION

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with

the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Current
law
prohibits
a
person
from
permitting
a
vehicle
to
18
stand
unattended
without
first
stopping
the
engine,
or
without
19
effectively
setting
the
brake
and
turning
the
front
wheels
to
20
the
curb
or
side
of
the
highway
when
the
vehicle
is
standing
21
upon
any
perceptible
grade.
A
violation
of
this
provision
is
22
punishable
by
a
scheduled
fine
of
$20.
23
This
bill
permits
a
motor
vehicle
to
stand
unattended
24
without
first
stopping
the
engine
if
the
vehicle
is
locked
or,
25
if
it
is
impossible
to
lock
the
vehicle
while
the
vehicle’s
26
engine
is
running,
the
vehicle
is
equipped
with
a
theft
alarm
27
signal
device
or
other
antitheft
device
and
such
device
is
in
28
operation.
