by
striking
the
paragraph.

The
inclusion
of
this
explanation
does
not
constitute
agreement
with
4
the
explanation’s
substance
by
the
members
of
the
general
assembly.

Current
law
provides
that
a
mechanical
device
specifically
6
constructed
and
designed
so
that
when
attached
to
a
firearm
it
7
silences,
muffles,
or
suppresses
the
sound
when
fired
is
an
8
offensive
weapon.
Under
Code
section
724.3,
any
person
who
9
knowingly
possesses
an
offensive
weapon
commits
a
class
“D”
10
felony,
punishable
by
confinement
for
no
more
than
five
years
11
and
a
fine
of
at
least
$750
but
not
more
than
$7,500.

The
bill
strikes
the
provision
in
Code
section
724.1(1)(h)
13
that
classifies
a
firearm
suppressor
as
an
offensive
weapon.
14
By
striking
this
provision,
a
firearm
suppressor
is
legal
to
15
possess
in
the
state
subject
to
federal
regulations.
