S.F. 280 Section 1. Section 298.3, subsection 1, paragraph i, Code 1 2015, is amended to read as follows: 2 i. Purchase The purchase of transportation equipment for 3 transporting students and the repair of such transportation 4 equipment . For the purposes of this paragraph, “repair” 5 means restoring an existing item of equipment to its original 6 condition, as near as may be, after gradual obsolescence or 7 physical and functional depreciation due to wear and tear, 8 corrosion and decay, or partial destruction, and includes 9 maintenance of an item of equipment. 10 Sec. 2. APPLICABILITY. This Act applies to school budget 11 years beginning on or after July 1, 2016. 12 EXPLANATION 13 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 14 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 15 Current Code section 298.3 authorizes revenues from the 16 regular and voter-approved physical plant and equipment 17 levies to be used for the purchase of transportation equipment 18 for transporting students. This bill authorizes a school 19 district to use revenues from such levies for the repair of 20 transportation equipment for transporting students.
