House Resolution 26 - Introduced HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 26 BY HIGHFILL and ABDUL-SAMAD A Resolution recognizing the relationship between 1 Taiwan and the State of Iowa and endorsing the 2 signing of a bilateral investment agreement between 3 Taiwan and the United States. 4 WHEREAS, relations between the Republic of China 5 (Taiwan) and the United States, and in particular the 6 State of Iowa with which Taiwan shares sister-city 7 and sister-state ties, are marked by strong bilateral 8 trade, educational and cultural exchanges, and 9 tourism; and 10 WHEREAS, Taiwan seeks to contribute to greater 11 regional integration in the Asia-Pacific region 12 and further promote bilateral investment and trade 13 relations with the United States; and 14 WHEREAS, negotiations for a bilateral investment 15 agreement between Taiwan and the United States are an 16 important step toward further strengthening bilateral 17 trade and paving the way for entering into a free trade 18 agreement between our two nations thereby increasing 19 Iowa’s exports to Taiwan and creating bilateral 20 investment and technical collaboration through tariff 21 reduction and other trade facilitation measures; NOW 22 THEREFORE, 23 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 24 the House of Representatives affirms its commitment to 25 the strong and deepening sister-city and sister-state 26 relationships between Taiwan and the State of Iowa, 27 and endorses the signing of a bilateral investment 28 -1- LSB 2627YH (3) 86 rn/rj 1/ 2
H.R. 26 agreement between Taiwan and the United States to 1 increase exports and facilitate trade and investment 2 with Taiwan; and 3 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Chief Clerk of the 4 House of Representatives is hereby directed to send a 5 copy of this Resolution to United States Secretary of 6 State John F.
