State
of
Iowa,
supporting
Taiwan’s

efforts

secure
entry
into
the
Trans-Pacific

Partnership,
and
endorsing
the
signing
of
a

bilateral
investment
agreement
between
Taiwan
and

the
United
States.

WHEREAS,
relations
between
the
Republic
of
China
7
(Taiwan)
and
the
United
States,
and
in
particular
the
8
State
of
Iowa
with
which
Taiwan
shares
sister-city
9
and
sister-state
ties,
are
marked
by
strong
bilateral
10
trade,
educational
and
cultural
exchanges,
and
11
tourism;
and
12
WHEREAS,
Taiwan,
in
order
to
contribute
to
greater
13
regional
integration
in
the
Asia-Pacific
region
14
and
further
promote
bilateral
investment
and
trade
15
relations
with
the
United
States,
seeks
to
join
the
16
Trans-Pacific
Partnership,
the
proposed
21st
century
17
trade
agreement
between
the
United
States
and
11
other
18
Asia-Pacific
Rim
countries;
and
19
WHEREAS,
negotiations
for
a
bilateral
investment
20
agreement
between
Taiwan
and
the
United
States
are
an
21
important
step
toward
further
strengthening
bilateral
22
trade
and
paving
the
way
for
entering
into
a
free
trade
23
agreement
between
our
two
nations
thereby
increasing
24
Iowa’s
exports
to
Taiwan
and
creating
bilateral
25
investment
and
technical
collaboration
through
tariff
26
reduction
and
other
trade
facilitation
measures;
NOW

THEREFORE,

BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That

the
House
of
Representatives
affirms
its
commitment
to
2
the
strong
and
deepening
sister-city
and
sister-state
3
relationships
between
Taiwan
and
the
State
of
Iowa,
4
reaffirms
its
support
for
Taiwan’s
efforts
to
secure
5
entry
into
the
Trans-Pacific
Partnership
to
contribute
6
to
greater
regional
integration,
and
endorses
the
7
signing
of
a
bilateral
investment
agreement
between
8
Taiwan
and
the
United
States
to
increase
exports
and
9
facilitate
trade
and
investment
with
Taiwan;
and
10
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
Chief
Clerk
of
the
11
House
of
Representatives
is
hereby
directed
to
send
a
12
copy
of
this
Resolution
to
United
States
Secretary
of
13
State
John
F.
Kerry,
the
Taipei
Economic
and
Cultural
14
Office
in
Chicago,
Illinois,
and
the
members
of
Iowa’s
15
congressional
delegation.
