MOORE , PAUSTIAN , WILLS , SHEETS , BRANHAGEN , WORTHAN , DEYOE , GRASSLEY , COWNIE , LANDON , and HOLZ A Resolution commemorating the 25th anniversary of the 1 conclusion of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm. 2 WHEREAS, Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm 3 occurred from August 2, 1990, to April 6, 1991, in the 4 Middle East; and 5 WHEREAS, Iowa-based National Guard and Reserve 6 units, and selected personnel, were deployed to 7 the Middle East in support of Operation Desert 8 Shield/Desert Storm; and 9 WHEREAS, active duty military personnel from Iowa, 10 stationed all over the world, served in Operation 11 Desert Shield/Desert Storm in all branches of the 12 United States Armed Forces; and 13 WHEREAS, six military veterans and one civilian 14 -1- LSB 5392HH (7) 86 ec/nh 1/ 2
H.R. 103 contractor from Iowa gave their lives during Operation 1 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and 2 WHEREAS, on December 19, 2014, the National Desert 3 Storm War Memorial Association received congressional 4 and executive approval to build a National Desert Storm 5 War Memorial in Washington, D.C., to honor the veterans 6 from Iowa and the nation who were killed in Operation 7 Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and 8 WHEREAS, February 28, 2016, marks the 25th 9 anniversary of the date a cease-fire was declared 10 concerning Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; and 11 WHEREAS, April 6, 2016, marks the 25th anniversary 12 of the date Iraq officially accepted cease-fire terms 13 to conclude Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; NOW 14 THEREFORE, 15 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, 16 That the House of Representatives recognizes and 17 shows support for the future National Desert Storm War 18 Memorial in Washington, D.C.; and 19 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the House of 20 Representatives commemorates the 25th anniversary of 21 the conclusion of Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, 22 and urges the citizens of this State to honor those 23 Iowa veterans who served their country during Operation 24 Desert Shield/Desert Storm. 25 -2- LSB 5392HH (7) 86 ec/nh 2/ 2
