H.F. 2282 Section 1. NEW SECTION . 279.70 Display of motto. 1 The board of directors of each school district shall cause 2 to be displayed the motto “in God we trust”, which is declared 3 in federal law, 36 U.S.C. §302, to be the national motto of 4 the United States, in every school building in the school 5 district in a manner which may include but not be limited to 6 the prominent display of a wall plaque or artwork that results 7 from a student contest. 8 EXPLANATION 9 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 10 the explanation’s substance by the members of the general assembly. 11 This bill directs school districts to display the motto “in 12 God we trust”, which is declared in federal law 36 U.S.C. §302 13 to be the national motto of the United States, in every school 14 building in the school district in a manner which may include 15 but not be limited to the prominent display of a wall plaque or 16 artwork that results from a student contest. 17 -1- LSB 5727YH (4) 85 kh/rj 1/ 1
