S.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 261.130 Iowa internship connection. 1 1. By January 1, 2013, the commission shall establish 2 an internet site for the purpose of distributing information 3 regarding internship opportunities available in Iowa. The 4 internet site shall be known as the Iowa internship connection. 5 2. The internet site shall include means for students 6 attending accredited public and nonpublic high schools, regents 7 institutions, community colleges, and accredited private 8 institutions as defined in section 261.9, and Iowa residents 9 attending postsecondary educational institutions outside 10 of Iowa, to obtain information about and seek internship 11 opportunities in Iowa. The internet site shall include means 12 for a student to post contact information, interests, and 13 qualifications for internship opportunities. 14 3. The internet site shall include means for private 15 businesses, state and local government agencies, and 16 nonprofit organizations to post information about internship 17 opportunities and to seek applicants for internship 18 opportunities. The internet site shall include a searchable 19 database of such information. 20 EXPLANATION 21 This bill directs the college student aid commission to 22 establish by January 1, 2013, an internet site for the purpose 23 of distributing information regarding internship opportunities 24 available in Iowa. The internet site shall be known as the 25 Iowa internship connection. 26 The bill provides that the internet site shall include 27 means for students attending accredited public and nonpublic 28 high schools, regents institutions, community colleges, and 29 accredited private institutions, and Iowa residents attending 30 postsecondary educational institutions outside of Iowa, to 31 obtain information about and seek internship opportunities in 32 Iowa.
