the
week

October
14
through
20
as
World

Food
Prize
Week
in
Iowa.

WHEREAS,
healthy
food
is
essential
to
the
life,
4
health,
and
prosperity
of
all
Iowans;
and
5
WHEREAS,
the
economy
and
social
fabric
of
this
state
6
are
inextricably
linked
to
food
production
and
food
7
production-related
activities;
and
8
WHEREAS,
the
State
of
Iowa
has
inherited
plentiful
9
fresh
water
and
some
of
the
most
productive
farmland
in
10
the
world,
with
the
potential
of
feeding
more
hungry
11
people
and
generating
sustainable
incomes
for
more
Iowa
12
families;
and
13
WHEREAS,
the
State
of
Iowa
is
a
leader
in
the
local
14
food
economy,
creating
an
efficient
food
production
15
infrastructure
that
links
producers,
processors,
16
distributors,
and
marketers
to
vibrant
local
consumers,
17
markets,
and
communities;
and
18
WHEREAS,
a
state
food
production
policy
that
is
19
designed
to
produce
a
safe,
nutritious,
and
adequate

supply
for
consumption
must
also
balance
economic,

environmental,
and
social
considerations
that
are

important
to
the
people
of
this
state;
and

WHEREAS,
such
food
policy
can
enhance
economic
4
prosperity
by
putting
more
Iowans
to
work
in
5
agriculture,
with
the
goal
of
continuously
increasing
6
the
percentage
of
Iowa
food
dollars
spent
on
Iowa
farm
7
products;
and
8
WHEREAS,
the
World
Food
Prize
emphasizes
the
9
importance
of
a
nutritious
and
sustainable
food
supply
10
for
all
people
by
improving
the
quality,
quantity,
or
11
availability
of
food
in
the
world
and
has
established
12
a
record
of
engaging
Iowans
in
a
dialogue
on
important
13
issues
related
to
food
and
hunger;
NOW
THEREFORE,
14
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
15
the
House
of
Representatives
proclaims
its
support
for
16
local
farmers
and
local
food
production;
and
17
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
House
of
18
Representatives
recognizes
October
14
through
20,
2012,
19
as
World
Food
Prize
Week
in
Iowa,
and
salutes
the
World
20
Food
Prize
Foundation
on
the
completion
of
its
Hall
of
21
Laureates
and
for
its
role
in
making
our
state
the
food
22
capital
of
the
world;
and
23
BE
IT
FURTHER
RESOLVED,
That
the
House
of
24
Representatives
encourages
Iowa
communities
to
create
25
local
celebrations,
discussions,
and
other
activities
26
to
explore
how
we,
as
Iowans,
can
promote
and
expand
27
local
food
economies,
continuously
improving
the
28
quality,
quantity,
and
availability
of
nutritious
food
29
in
our
state.
