WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
of
every
race,
class,
and
3
ethnic
background
have
made
historic
contributions
4
to
the
growth
and
strength
of
our
state
and
nation
5
in
countless
recorded
and
unrecorded
ways,
including
6
through
the
struggle
for
women’s
rights;
and
7
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
have
played
and
continue
to
8
play
a
critical
economic,
cultural,
and
social
role
by
9
constituting
a
significant
portion
of
the
labor
force
10
working
inside
and
outside
of
the
home;
and
11
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
were
particularly
important
in
12
the
establishment
of
early
charitable,
philanthropic,
13
and
cultural
institutions
in
our
state
and
nation;
and
14
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
and
men
amended
the
Iowa
15
Constitution
to
read
that
“All
men
and
women
are,
by
16
nature,
free
and
equal,
and
have
certain
inalienable
17
rights...”;
and
18
WHEREAS,
Iowa
women
have
been
leaders
in
19
agriculture,
business,
and
industry
as
well
as
the
20

abolitionist
movement,
the
emancipation
movement,
the

labor
movement,
the
civil
rights
movement,
and
the

women’s
suffrage
movement,
which
create
a
more
fair
and

just
society
for
all;
and
4
WHEREAS,
despite
these
contributions,
and
those
of
5
women
throughout
the
world,
the
role
of
women
has
been
6
undervalued,
in
the
literature,
teaching,
and
study
of
7
history;
NOW
THEREFORE,
8
BE
IT
RESOLVED
BY
THE
HOUSE
OF
REPRESENTATIVES,
That
9
the
House
of
Representatives
recognizes
the
month
of
10
March
2012
as
Iowa
Women’s
History
Month
and
invites
11
the
citizens
of
Iowa
to
continue
to
uncover
the
roles
12
women
have
played
throughout
history.
