TAYLOR , TJEPKES , UPMEYER , VAN ENGELENHOVEN , VANDER LINDEN , WAGNER , WATTS , WINDSCHITL , and WORTHAN A Resolution to commemorate the centennial of the birth 1 of President Ronald Reagan. 2 WHEREAS, February 6, 2011, is the centennial 3 birthday of Ronald Wilson Reagan; and 4 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan was a man of humble 5 background, who worked throughout his life serving 6 freedom and advancing the public good, having been 7 employed as an entertainer, union leader, corporate 8 spokesman, Governor of California, and President of the 9 United States; and 10 WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and 11 distinction for two terms as the fortieth President 12 of the United States of America, the second term of 13 which he earned the confidence of sixty percent of 14 the electorate and was victorious in forty-nine of 15 the fifty states in the general election, a record 16 unsurpassed in the history of American Presidential 17 -1- LSB 1573YH (5) 84 jr/nh 1/ 3
H.R. 10 elections; and 18 WHEREAS, both President Reagan and his wife 19 Nancy have distinguished records of public service 20 to the United States, the American people, and the 21 international community; and 22 WHEREAS, during his terms in office, President 23 Reagan worked in a bipartisan manner to enact his 24 bold agenda of restoring accountability and common 25 sense to government which led to an unprecedented 26 economic expansion and opportunity for millions of 27 Americans; and 28 WHEREAS, President Reagan fulfilled his pledge to 1 help restore “the great, confident roar of American 2 progress, growth, and optimism” and ensure renewed 3 economic prosperity; and 4 WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to an active 5 social policy agenda for the nation’s children helped 6 lower crime and drug use in the nation’s communities 7 and neighborhoods; and 8 WHEREAS, President Reagan’s commitment to the 9 nation’s armed forces contributed to the restoration of 10 pride in America, American values and those cherished 11 by the free world, and prepared America’s armed forces 12 to win the Gulf War; and 13 WHEREAS, President Reagan’s vision of “peace through 14 strength” led to the end of the Cold War and the 15 ultimate demise of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic 16 human rights for millions of people; NOW THEREFORE, 17 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES, That 18 the House of Representatives, on this the centennial of 19 -2- LSB 1573YH (5) 84 jr/nh 2/ 3
